Laura Bassi Scholarship (2026) – Editorial Assistance for Postgraduates & Junior Academics

Scholarship Description

The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines. Named after Laura Bassi (1711–1778), the first woman to earn a university chair in physics and the second woman in the world to earn a Doctor of Philosophy degree, this scholarship continues her legacy of empowering scholars who challenge conventional academic boundaries.

The scholarships are open to every discipline and are awarded three times per year. The value of the scholarship is remitted solely through editorial assistance for master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and academic journal articles. There are no institutional, departmental, or national restrictions.

Scholarship Location

The scholarship is global and remote – editorial assistance is provided virtually. Scholars can be based anywhere in the world, as the service is delivered online.

Scholarship Deadlines (2026)

The Laura Bassi Scholarship is awarded three times per year. For 2026, the application cycles are as follows:

Host Institution

The scholarship is administered by the Bassi Foundation through Editing Press, an editorial service provider dedicated to supporting academic research and writing across all disciplines.

Level and Fields of Study

Levels:

• Master's candidates (editorial assistance for master's theses)
• Doctoral candidates (editorial assistance for doctoral dissertations)
• Junior academics in the first five years of full-time employment (editorial assistance for academic journal articles)

Fields: Open to every discipline – there are no restrictions. The scholarship particularly encourages research focusing on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines.

Target Group

All currently enrolled master's and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are academics in the first five years of full-time employment. There are no institutional, departmental, or national restrictions. The scholarship is truly global and open to all nationalities and academic affiliations.

Scholarship Value & Duration

The scholarship is remitted solely through editorial assistance for academic writing projects. The values reflect the upper bracket of costs of editorial assistance:

The scholarship is a one-time award per successful applicant. There is no ongoing commitment beyond the editorial assistance provided for the specific project.

Scholarship Eligibility

Master's candidates: Currently enrolled in a master's programme anywhere in the world. No discipline or institutional restrictions.

Doctoral candidates: Currently enrolled in a doctoral programme anywhere in the world. No discipline or institutional restrictions.

Junior academics: Within the first five years of full-time employment (post-PhD). Open to all disciplines and institutional affiliations worldwide.

Research focus: Preference is given to research focusing on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines. However, all topics are considered.

Application Procedure

1. Prepare your application materials – You will need a completed application form and your current CV.
2. Read the FAQ carefully – Before applying, review the FAQ section on the scholarship website to understand the application requirements and avoid common mistakes.
3. Access the application portal – Click the 'Apply' button on the official scholarship page (https://editing.press/bassi). The portal will guide you through the submission process.
4. Submit your application – Upload your completed application form and CV together (not separately) using the portal by the relevant deadline.
5. Pay the voluntary application fee – To help defray the scholarship's administrative costs, applicants are subject to a voluntary USD $10.00 fee. First-time applicants who are unable to pay are welcome to take advantage of the fee waiver option on the application portal.
6. Wait for results – Successful applicants are notified on the results dates specified for each cycle (20 March, 24 July, or 4 December 2026).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• Do not submit your application material by email – this would breach impartiality rules and potentially invalidate your application.
• If you wish to update your application material, upload your documents afresh using the same email address as your initial submission. Your dossier will then update automatically.
• Your application documents need to be uploaded together rather than separately.
