Scholarship Eligibility

General eligibility criteria:

• For Malaysian Undergraduate: Applicants must apply via UPU Online (https://upu.mohe.gov.my/) for STPM, Matriculation, ASASI, or Diploma equivalent.
• For International Undergraduate: Must apply through the UTM SMARt application system. Applications are accepted in two phases (April–May and June–July).
• For Foundation and Diploma: Malaysian and international students may apply directly through UTMSPACE.
• For Postgraduate: Malaysian and international students apply via the SMARt system.

Application notes:

• International students cannot apply for change of programme/university due to immigration regulations.
• Transfer credits are only eligible for undergraduate programmes.
• Deferment of study is possible after receiving an offer letter (contact Recruitment Unit).

Application Procedure

For Malaysian Undergraduate Students (Mainstream Programme):

1. Apply via UPU Online at https://upu.mohe.gov.my/ from February to March 2026.
2. Eligible applicants include STPM, Matriculation, ASASI/Foundation, Diploma holders.
3. Also open to GCE A-Level, SAT, ACT, International Baccalaureate (IB), Australian/Canadian Matriculation, or American Degree Programme (ADFP/ACTP) holders.

For Malaysian Foundation & Diploma SPACE UTM (Students graduating after June 2026 only):

1. Apply via the UTM SMARt application system.
2. Also for Foundation UTM-MARA and Kolej Mara Kuala Nerang / APEL A applicants.

For International Undergraduate Students (September 2026 Intake):

1. Phase 1: 1 April – 15 May 2026
2. Phase 2: 23 June – 17 July 2026
3. Apply via the UTM SMARt application system.

For Postgraduate Students:

1. Malaysian Applicants: 1 April – 31 August 2026
2. International Applicants: 1 April – 31 July 2026
3. Apply via the UTM SMARt application system.

Required documents (typically):

• Academic transcripts and certificates
• English language proficiency test results (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)
• Passport copy (for international students)
• Recommendation letters
