Scholarship Description

The University of Greater Manchester International Excellence Scholarships recognise academic achievement and support talented international students to study at the University of Greater Manchester. The scheme offers tuition fee discounts of up to £4,000 for eligible students across undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and doctoral programmes, with additional awards available for specific groups.

In addition to the Excellence Scholarships, the University offers Global Scholars Awards of £5,000 and the prestigious Chancellor's Excellence Scholar award providing 100% tuition fee discount for the first year. The University also offers the Greater Manchester Homecoming Scholarship for British citizens classified as international fee payers, reducing fees to home student rates.

Scholarship Deadline

• Bronze Award (All other eligible applicants): £2,000 tuition fee discount

International Merit Package (all other countries, or applications via agent):

• Gold Award (First Class / 70% GPA or equivalent): £3,000 tuition fee discount
• Silver Award (Upper Second / 60% GPA or equivalent): up to £2,000 tuition fee discount
• Bronze Award (All other eligible applicants): up to £1,000 tuition fee discount

Global Scholars Awards (Year 1 only):

• 10 awards of £5,000 tuition fee discount
• Available to Undergraduate and PhD applicants eligible for a Gold award
• Available for selected countries only
• Separate application and interview required

Chancellor's Excellence Scholar:

Scholarship Eligibility

International Excellence Scholarships – General Eligibility:

• Classified as an international fee-paying student.
• Hold an offer for an eligible undergraduate, postgraduate taught, or doctoral programme.
• Be self-funded (government-funded students are not eligible).
• Awards are determined by highest verified academic qualification (First Class, Upper Second, or other).
• Scholarships are non-transferable, non-deferrable, and cannot be exchanged for cash.

Global Excellence Package Eligibility:

• Applicants from designated countries (Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, Senegal, Cote D'Ivoire, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Libya, Oman, Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Turkey, EU countries, USA, Canada, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Nepal, Brazil, Columbia, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Dominican Republic).
• Applicants applying directly to the University (not via an agent or government sponsor).

International Merit Package Eligibility:

• Applicants from any other country not listed above, or
• Applicants using the services of a representative partner or agent.

Global Scholars Awards Eligibility:

• Undergraduate and PhD applicants eligible for a Gold award.
• Available for selected countries only (same as Global Excellence Package).
• Available only for the September 2026/27 intake.
• Separate application and interview required.

Application Procedure

1. Apply for admission – Submit an application for an eligible undergraduate, postgraduate taught, or doctoral programme at the University of Greater Manchester.
2. Receive an offer – Obtain an offer letter for your chosen programme.
3. Check eligibility – Determine which scholarship package you qualify for based on your country of origin and application method (direct or via agent).
4. For Global Scholars Awards (separate application) – If eligible for a Gold award, submit a separate application for the Global Scholars Award. This includes a personal statement and interview.
5. Automatic consideration – International Excellence Scholarships are awarded automatically based on academic merit at the time of offer. No separate application is required for the Excellence Scholarships.
6. Additional awards – Women in STEM, Family Discount, and TNE Progression Awards are applied automatically at the point of CAS issuance if eligibility criteria are met.
7. Accept your offer – Accept your offer and enrol. Scholarships are applied at enrolment and subject to verification of eligibility.

Important notes: Scholarships are for Year 1 only. All awards are tuition fee discounts. Scholarships cannot be combined to exceed the total Year 1 tuition fee. The University reserves the right to amend or withdraw scholarships at any time.
