The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a prestigious scholarship for excellent students from non-EU/EEA countries applying for a graduate programme (MSc) at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Target Group

The scholarship targets excellent students from non-EU/EEA countries who belong to the top 5 to 10 percent of their graduation class at their home university. All nationalities are eligible, as the scholarship is open to students from all countries worldwide (excluding EU/EEA).

Scholarship Duration & Amount

Amount: €3,000 – €22,000 for one year. The scholarship is meant as a compensation for study-related costs.

Duration: For two-year Master's programmes, students can receive an additional UTS of an amount equal to that in the first year to cover the expenses of the second year. Continuation is conditional on meeting academic requirements:

• Average grade of 7 (out of 10) at the end of the third quartile of the first year
• At least 50% of European Credits at the end of the third quartile of the first year

Important note: This scholarship is meant as a compensation for study-related costs. It is up to the scholarship student to decide how to spend the money. No costs (e.g., tuition fees) will be paid on your behalf.

Additional scholarship opportunity (Kipaji Scholarship): An additional scholarship can be awarded to UTS recipients for programmes starting in September 2027. You need to apply for UTS to be eligible for the Kipaji Scholarship, which has additional requirements.

Scholarship Eligibility

Essential criteria:

• Citizenship: You must be from a non-EU/EEA country. Students from all countries worldwide are eligible.
• Admission: You have been (provisionally) admitted to one of the qualifying UT Master programmes starting in the academic year 2027/2028 (September).
• Student number: You must have a student number from the University of Twente.
• Not a UT graduate: You have not graduated from a UT (under)graduate programme.
• Visa requirements: You comply with the conditions for obtaining an entry visa in the Netherlands (if applicable).
• English proficiency: You comply with the general English language test requirement: Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT of 90) and an additional 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 20) on the subscore of speaking skills.
• Eligibility for Dutch study loan: You are not eligible for a Dutch study loan.
• Academic excellence: The University Twente Scholarship is for excellent students. This means that you only belong to the best 5 to 10 percent of your graduation class at your home university.

Application Procedure

1. Apply for admission to the University of Twente – Submit your application for a qualifying Master's programme through the university's admissions portal. This is a separate procedure from the scholarship application.
2. Receive (provisional) admission – Wait for the admission decision. After completion of your application, it may take up to 8 weeks before you receive the results. You must have a student number.
3. Check eligibility – Ensure you meet all eligibility criteria: non-EU/EEA citizenship, English language requirements, and academic excellence (top 5-10% of your class).
4. Complete the scholarship application form – The application form opens on 15 October 2026 at 09:00 CET and closes on 1 April 2027 at 16:00 CET. Fill out the online application form through the UT scholarship portal.
5. Submit by the deadline – Ensure your application is submitted before the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.
6. Selection process – Applications are evaluated based on academic excellence. Results will be announced in the first week of May 2027.
7. Acceptance and enrolment – If awarded, accept the scholarship offer and complete enrolment at the University of Twente.
